The Tennessee Tech University Equestrian Team is a club sport at Tennessee Tech University. Our team is composed of all levels of riders, ranging from beginners to national circuit competitors. The team participates in hunt seat and western competitions within the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association. The Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association or "IHSA" is unique in that it allows students to compete without having to own their own horse! In addition to IHSA competitions, the team participates in team building, fundraising, local horse shows, and community events!

Our western team competes in horsemanship, ranch riding, and reining as part of IHSA Area 51 against Middle Tennessee University, Murray State University, University of Tennessee Knoxville, and Western Kentucky University. Our hunt seat team competes in equitation on the flat and equitation over fences as part of IHSA Zone 5, Region 1 against Maryville College, Middle Tennessee University, Murray State University, Rhodes College, University of Tennessee Knoxville, University of the South, Vanderbilt University and Western Kentucky University.

The equestrian team is open to all Tennessee Tech students regardless of age, gender, race, ability or status. Students do not need to own their own horse or have any prior horse knowledge to join. While only full time undergraduate students are able to show in IHSA competitions, the team offers many other opportunities for part time, graduate, and non-traditional students to get involved with horses. Those who do not wish to compete or even ride but want horse experience are welcome to join the club as non-competing members.

Unlike some other club sports, the equestrian team is active throughout the entire school year! Both the western and hunt seat teams attend two competitions per semester. Regular season competition lasts from September-March. Riders who qualify for IHSA Regionals and receive top placings may go on to compete at IHSA Zones or IHSA Nationals later in the spring semester.​
